Walking out without pads
I have never done it.
I don’t think I have ever walked out without any gear.
My problem is remembering to pack my whites before the game. Especially my pants.
But JC has walked out without pads.
“As I approach the pitch, one of the fielders calls out to me, “Mate, aren’t you wearing pads?” I look down aghast. I’d forgotten to put pads on! Out of all the most ridiculous things I’ve ever done on a cricket field, this was first, daylight second. Sure, I have to concentrate on the ball but this is aloofness run amock! I rush to the boundary, throw on the pads, run back and arrive at the crease, breathless and flustered as I prepare to face the first ball. Perfect start to the day!”
Get over to cricket blog and here all about the aloof theory he has.
As far as I can tell of active bloggers, it is only JC, myself and Tom who are writing about playing club cricket.
If you know of any others let me know.

Looking back, thinking of my teammates laughing at me, the opposition laughing at me, in any other situation, I would be absolutely mortified and humiliated. But all I was thinking about was not letting it break my concentration and get me out, now THAT would’ve really ticked me off.
The next week, as I was about to go out to bat, I made a point of patting myself down to make sure I had all the right bits of equipment in the right places.
You are the zen master of club cricket.
